Perl Script: Simple Folder Opener v1.1 |
Friday, March 29th, 2013 11:18:33 GMT |
Just a tiny update.
Had to add some quotes - otherwise this script wouldn't work right for folder paths with any spaces in them.
The project from late January will, I hope, be done very soon.
No, this isn't the project I've been working on since late January. :-) The above update took even longer than that - it took me almost two years to notice and fix the above problem. *facepalm*

New Page: Some Puppy Linux Basics |
Friday, April 19th, 2013 20:10:37 GMT |
Well, my project from late January is still not 100% done. Actually, though, it's inaccurate to call all that just one project, because it grew so much it ended up being about 4 different, related projects.
I wanted to release all 4 at the same time, but, I recently got a cold, so, I haven't been able to finish them all.
But, 1 of the 4 is done - or done enough for now. (It's the kind of thing that's a perpetual work in progress, so I probably will add more to it eventually.) Here it is:
Even if you don't use Puppy Linux, the section titled What is free, libre, open source software? might be entertaining reading for anyone.
And, added two currently boring and mostly empty pages: Goods and Services.
And, changed the some of the link colors on this website to be more readable.
Minor updates: I renamed the Request Software or Ask Programming Questions page to Request Free/Libre/Open Source Software, Documentation, or Ask Programming Questions, and updated it.

First Releases of Astroblahhh GLMP-GTK and Astroblahhh PH-GTK |
Sunday, April 28th, 2013 09:35:49 GMT |
Software Releases |
Here are projects 2 and 3 from late January 2013. They're for Ubuntu-based Puppy Linuxes and Slacko Puppy:
I sure underestimated how long it would take to finish all this stuff.
But, in a way, I'm sort of glad it took this long, because April 28th and 29th, 2012 were some quite lousy days for me, and releasing these nice, useful projects today and tomorrow will give me some good, happy things to look back on on future April 28ths and 29ths. :-)
I'm going to release projects 4 and 5 on April 29th. Yes, 4 and 5 - I miscounted before.
Originally, the 5th thing was going to just be some simplistic demo software, which I didn't mean to take at all long to write. But, after adding so many nice little features to it, I decided it deserved a cool name and to be treated as a full-fledged project after all.

Started (and deleted) a Twitter account |
Sunday, June 23rd, 2013 10:18:13 GMT |
I started a Twitter account.
Maybe I'll end up updating that more frequently than any of my websites.
(Edit, 3:40 PM. I changed my mind about having a Twitter account at all, so I deleted it.)
Probably all the members so far - 38 accounts other than mine and my test account - are spam robots. Oddly, somehow not a single one has ever managed to post anything (nothing ever even made it to the moderation queue), and I'm only using the Simple-level captcha.
Also to my surprise, the forum was discovered by spambots very soon after announcing the forum on my blogs - less than a 1/2 hour later, if I recall correctly.
As usual, I welcome purchases of goods and services, and donations or microdonations.
I still didn't post anything new to the new Eryss.Com Forum. No one else did, either. I haven't gone too far out of my way to draw attention to it, though. I probably should post some stuff, like stuff I'd like to sell, but, I guess it just hasn't seemed likely to help my situation as much as other things I'm doing instead.
I've been falling behind on most correspondence and probably will continue to do so until my situation improves a lot.

Zip file of 28 Raphael Demos I saved on 11/24/2013 |
Wednesday, November 27th, 2013 02:55:30 GMT |
JavaScript Software |
To the Software section, I added a zip file of 28 Raphaël Demos saved 11/24/2013.
If you just want to look at the demos without having to save anything, you can at the official Raphaël site, raphaeljs.com.
Raphaël is by Dmitry Baranovskiy. Raphaël and the demos are under the MIT license. I had nothing to do with authoring Raphaël or the demos in this zip file.
More details are here.
Raphaël* (official website: raphaeljs.com) is a really cool free, libre, open source JavaScript library for handling vector graphic images and animations.

Astroblahhh.Com Font Sample Generator v1.0, in JavaScript |
Wednesday, December 25th, 2013 19:37:19 GMT |
Software Release |
Happy holidays to all!
I wrote a font sample generator in JavaScript, to make it easier to view and choose between fonts and different font sizes and styles... and I ended up making it a lot fancier than it really had to be.
It's also a useful random color generator.
Note: Some browsers have problems saving JavaScript pages properly using the typical Save function in the File menu. So, to save this script, you can either download the zip file of the source code, or use your browser's View Page Source function, then copy and paste the source code into a text editor, and save it with the text editor.
I went a bit overboard with that, to the point where that unintentionally became my top project this month. I didn't mean it to take more than a day or two, but, I just kept adding and adding to it. I'm not sure I worked on Astroblahhh Desktop at all this month, except for noting down some design ideas sometimes.
Happily, pieces of this font sample generator will definitely be useful in other projects, including even Astroblahhh Desktop. And writing it made me a lot more familiar and comfortable with JavaScript, which will surely be useful to me in the future.
Don't know when that will be done, and it's very possible that other things will take priority.
As mentioned in this post from today on Eryss.Com, I'm going to try to release the incomplete (but useful) AutoHotkey* (AHK) version of the Eryss astrology software before February 2014. It probably won't take nearly that long, but I just wanted to give myself a lot of time to get around to it.
Or, if there are other things you'd like me to consider doing, you can let me know via the Eryss.Com Forum or my currently spam-ridden email address. Or even my Tumblr's Ask or Submit pages.
Sorry if anyone sent me mail that I haven't answered (or even seen). I've scarcely even looked at my Astroblahhh mail for quite a while now, since I get almost nothing but spam. It's probably better to contact me via the Eryss.Com Forum or even my Tumblr.
Tumblr is currently my favorite social media website, and so far, I have never gotten a single message at either of my Tumblrs, not even spam. And the Eryss.Com Forum, despite the fact that even unregistered guests may post to some boards, has been free of spam and spambot registrations ever since I upgraded to a stronger capcha for user registrations.
Again, happy holidays to all!
The font sample generator is under the GNU Affero General Public License - except for any parts not by me. I copied and pasted (and often modified) some functions and other snippets I found on the web, and I think I usually noted them with comments in the source code.
I began writing it around maybe Dec. 5th. The basic idea was really easy to make - the most time-consuming part was all the polishing.
It's nice to have relatively quickly completed something really useful and polished. In contrast, the task of building Astroblahhh Desktop v3.0 seems so wearyingly neverending. I've made enormous progress with it, but it's still not ready to even use, let alone release.
As always, donations and microdonations and requests for free, libre, open source software and documentation are welcome.
Astroblahhh.Com Simple Generator of Many VUE Nodes with Random Colors and Fonts v1.0, etc. |
Sunday, December 29th, 2013 12:35:23 GMT |
Software Release |
A couple new JavaScripts. The first one is the nicer one, the second is its primitive ancestor.
Both are sloppy and relatively unpolished compared to the Astroblahhh.Com Font Sample Generator v1.0, in JavaScript (which was actually written after these two were mostly complete).
But, they get the job done fine.
A nice, lazy way to randomly choose colors and fonts for your nodes in the free, libre, open source concept mapping software VUE (Visual Understanding Environment)*.
It generates copy-and-pasteable source code for a .vue file, and using the Raphaël library (not by me), shows you right in your web browser approximately what the nodes will look like in VUE. The .vue source code it generates definitely works with VUE 3.0.2 and VUE 3.2.2.
A very primitive version of the preceding. Only generates a single node and three different copy-and-pasteable random hexadecimal colors.
