Lake Champlain, in New York State. We took a ferry across the lake, car and all (along with a bunch of other people and their cars). The boat moved quite rapidly, and it took only about 20 minutes to get across. In the meanwhile, I stood around and took a roll of film's worth of rather indistinguishable pictures of the lake. (However, due to boredom and impatience, I only scanned in the best).

A quarter of the way across, or so, I vaguely remembered that this was the lake that was rumored to have a Loch Ness-like monster in it somewhere. We didn't see it, but we did see a long-necked silhouetted water fowl which, had I been fast enough to catch it, would probably have made a decent hoax picture... but the boat was moving so fast, we had left it far behind before I could get a picture of it.
