Providence, Rhode Island. Very nearby 10 Barnes St. (if I recall correctly), is this house, the Halsey House of 140 Prospect St., which was the inspiration for a particular house in The Case of Charles Dexter Ward by H. P. Lovecraft, according to Lovecraft's Providence by Henry L. P. Beckwith, Jr., a book that was very helpful in finding these various sites.
I uploaded an unsharpened version of this picture to this location in Wikipedia and released it into the public domain. (By the way, I think it was actually taken Tuesday, August 15, 2000, not the 14th, as I mistakenly stated on Wikipedia). It's used in the article The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, and fortunately, as of 10/24/2006, no one has messed with it, yet.
